              Sissinghurst

Celebrated worldwide for its beautiful garden, Sissinghurst Castle in Kent was also the house of Vita Sackville West - Poet, gardener and lover (she had some 40 gay affairs). In Vita's time, Sissinghurst was a family home, albeit an eccentric one, but in her death it was passed to the National Trust. Now Vita's grandson Adam Nickleson and his wife Sarah Raven have returned to make some changes.

Adam believes the agricultural heart of the estate has been ripped out and wants to reinstate it by bringing the farm back in hand. Sarah meanwhile, dreams of making the National Trust restaurant self-sufficient using produce from Sissinghurst's own fields.

There is support - and also some opposition - from the start as Adam and Sarah grapple with the National Trust's way of doing things. It soon becomes clear that the return to Sissinghurst may not be a bed of roses.
